Prehen’s longest hitter, Tom McClintock (10) proved he had the short game as well to go with it as he recorded an excellent win in City of Derry’s popular weekly Thursday Open last week.

A fabulous 43 points meant he had only dropped just three shots to par on the immaculately prepared Prehen greens.

Sean Coyle (22) had his best round so far of this season to take second place with his 41 points, but three uncharacteristic double-bogeys costing the BBC Radio Foyle presenter dearly.

A well compiled 40 points enabled the fast improving Jason Cleere (17) to finish in third place and the gross prize went to the in-form Kealan Quigg (0) who scored 38 points.

Former member at Prehen and now playing out of Foyle Golf Club, Brendan Grimes (18) used his local knowledge to good effect in claiming the visitor’s prize after finishing with 36 points.

The Thursday Open at Prehen will be sponsored by Heywood and Robinson who specialise in Handmade Kitchens and work out of Goshaden.

City of Derry members are reminded that names for the Captain’s Day draw should be placed on the sheet in the men’s locker room.

The sheet for those wanting to play in the Scramble on Friday July 4 is also on display, it’s filling up fast and you need to be quick to be on it.
