Big hitter McKeever wins at Foyle

THE Different Class Menswear sponsored Open Stableford played at Foyle on Saturday had a decent entry.

With the competitors having to contend with strong winds making scoring difficult from the back tees but big hitting Eddie McKeever (17) compiled a very good winning score of 37 points for his maiden Open victory.

He was followed in second place by Longford man Kevin Tighe (12) who secured second spot after a break of tie finish with 34 points and Kieran Duffy (10) with 34 points was third.

The gross prize went to Cormac McGeady after he scored 31 points, Stackstown man Eugene Banks (15) with 29 points claimed the visitor’s prize after a BOT finish, while Cathal O’Donnell (11) with 19 points won the back nine after another BOT finish and Anne Hamilton (13) with 17 points won the ladies nine hold competition. The CSS was 35 points.

The Crumley Construction monthly medal saw Cormac McGeady (3) with nett 66 claim the category 0-11, Declan Ryan (13) scored nett 62 to win the category 12-17 section and Mark McIntyre (25) with nett 65 secured the category 18+ section. The CSS was 69.

Today (Wednesday) the Club Stableford competition is up for grabs, the usual Friday Open Stableford competition takes place this week, while on Saturday the City of Derry Building Society Open Stableford competition takes centre stage and the Club Sweep will be staged on Sunday.

Meanwhile the Confined Stableford competition at Faughan Valley on Saturday was played in blustery conditions, but that didn’t stop William O’Brien (19) who scored 40 points to claim first place.

Second spot went to Thomas Parkhill (15) after he scored 35 points and Martin Lynch (17) who finished with 34 points was third.

Sunday’s Monthly Medal Strokeplay competition was played in near perfect conditions at Faughan Valley.

Coming out on top with net 73 was Richard Godfrey (15), second was ten handicapper Graham Curry who scored net 74 and Stephen Nicholl (12) with net 75 was third.
