Birdie blitz

FORMER Derry City defender Paul McLaughlin (10), had a 4 birdie blitz on the back nine at last Thursday’s Open at City of Derry, to finish with 39 points and claim the top prize.

McLaughlin held off Martin Doherty (20) who scored 38 points to finish second and Jim McCann (12) was third after he scored 37 points.

While last Tuesday’s Ladies competition, which was the O2 Challenge Trophy stableford competition went after a break of tie to Christine Mitchell (27) after she scored 36 points.

Second was Geraldine Crossan (13) who also finished with 36 points and Lucy Smyth (20) with 35 points was third.

The front nine went to Cheryl Chambers (19) after she scored 18 points and Marlene Montgomery (25) with 20 points won the back nine,
