Black magic wins WR Kennedy stableford event at Galgorm Castle

At halfway in the WR Kennedy Ltd-sponsored Stableford held at Galgorm Castle Golf Club Stephen Black (11) held a narrow one point lead from Lyle Foster (8).

He in turn was one point ahead of John Law (6). Rod Lennox (13) and George Small (9) were another point behind with JJ McAnally (5) a further point down. With the help of two birdies Black increased his lead to three points over Law, Lennox and Small through thirteen. Foster hit bogey trouble and was another two points behind with McAnally a further point behind. Approaching the seventeenth tee Black after a ‘ding’ up the Grove was joined by Lennox, a point ahead of Small. Foster (‘ding’ at fourteen) was a further two points behind. McAnally was another point behind with Law after ‘dings’ at fourteen and sixteen trailing by another point. Black finished with a bogey and a par to win Overall by one point from Rod Lennox (two bogeys) in the Runner-up position. Small (bogey, par) was a further point behind but took Division 1 by one point with JJ McAnally (bogey, par), Foster (par, double bogey) and Law (par, birdie) finishing together. McAnally with a better back nine finished second and third place went to Law with a better back nine.

Raymond Ardis (12) held a four point advantage over Alistair McKervill (14), Andrew Moore (15), William Glover (12) and Stuart Gamble (11) at halfway in Division 2. Through thirteen there was a new leader with Gamble ahead of Ardis by one point. Three points further back came McKervill who was one and two points respectively in front of Glover and Moore (‘ding’ at twelve). Ardis ‘dinged’ sixteen and Gamble moved into a two point lead with two to play. McKervill and Glover were a point behind Ardis and a point ahead of Moore. Gamble gave the others a golden opportunity to win when he ‘dinged’ seventeen and bogeyed eighteen. He was joined at the finish by Glover (bogey, par), and Moore (bogey, par) and Ardis (two bogeys) but they were unable to contain McKervill who seized the opportunity with a bogey, par finish to win by one point. Moore with a better back six took second place and Glover (better back six) finished third.. Ardis won the Seniors.

Through the front nine in Division 3 Noel McAlynn (18) was leading by one, two and three points respectively from Denis McCarroll (18), Ivan McCappin (18) and David Henry (16) with Ivan Alexander (16) a further five points adrift at this stage. Through thirteen McCarroll (‘ding’ at ten) and Henry had moved up to join McAlynn (‘ding’ at eleven) in the lead. McCappin was two points behind the leading trio with Alexander another two points further behind. Up the Grove and McCarroll had edged in front by one point from McAlynn who was three points clear of Henry (‘ding’ at sixteen) and Alexander. McCappin was a further point behind. McCarroll (bogey, ‘ding’) held on to his one point advantage to win from McAlynn (bogey, ‘ding’) in second place. Henry (double bogey, par), Alexander (two bogeys) and McCappin (bogey, par) finished together and with a better back nine Alexander finished third.

Turning for home in Division 4 Drew Stewart (24) was one point ahead of Steve Henry (23) with Barry Mott (26) and Brian McFall (27) a further two points back. A par at the Maple saw Mott move into a two point lead from Henry and McFall with Stewart another point down. Mott lost the lead through sixteen to McFall after a ‘ding’ at Beechers. Stewart was two points behind Mott and after two ‘dings’ (fourteen and fifteen) Henry found himself a point behind Stewart. Mott (two bogeys) and Stewart (two pars) finished together and with a better back nine Mott claimed first place with Stewart in second. McFall lost his chance of winning when after leading by one point with one to play he ‘dinged’ the eighteenth and finished third a point behind. Henry (bogey, par) missed the placings by a single point. The Gross was won by Jordan Hood (-1).
