Boost for Cairndhu – on and off course

Larne’s Cairndhu Golf Club was boosted this week with an official accreditation from the Northern Ireland Tourist Board.

The club, which boasts spectacular views from its challenging 18-hole course, has been listed in the NITB Quality Assurance Scheme for Northern Ireland Golf Clubs. The honour was bestowed on Cairndhu at a ceremony at Endenmore GC with the presentation made by Ross Fothergill, Director of Business Development with the NITB.

Club captain, Alex Maguire, said: “I would like to thank Karen Hope and her team at NITB for all their help and support. I am delighted the club had received this award; it is recognition of the continued hard work of the staff and club members in promoting Cairndhu Golf Club and also the great response from visitors to the club.

“I look forward to the club using this accreditation to strengthen its links with the local Tourist Accommodation Facilities with the aim of bringing more visitors to stay in Larne so that they can enjoy what the borough has to offer.”

Cairndhu is now one of only 33 clubs in Northern Ireland to have received the NITB recognition. The process began back in January culminating in early May with a quality assessment of the course and facilities at the Coast Road club.

Meanwhile, on the course Stephen Watts continues his progress in Irish youth golf by adding to his representative honours after he was selected for the six-man team to play in the prestigious Sir Henry Cooper Junior Masters in Surrey from 20–23 June.
