BRADLEY WINS THE SPECSAVERS ANNUAL CHARITY EVENT AT RATHMORE

The event took place on Monday 6 May, and raised money for the club’s junior facilities, with £2,200 being raised this year for the golf club.

Specsavers has proudly supported this event for the last eight years.

Judith Ball, store director, Specsavers, Coleraine, said: “We see the Rathmore fundraising golf day as a very worthy event and one that we are delighted to be associated with.

“We work hard with Rathmore Golf Club to raise awareness of the annual golf day, in order to raise as much money as possible for facilities that the younger members can avail of. It was also at this very golf club, that the young, British golfing amateur champion, Alan Dunbar, first began his golfing career.

“It is brilliant to see so many young home-grown golfers doing so well on the global stage, and this highlights the importance of supporting local golf and sporting clubs across Northern Ireland. It is through local community support, that the clubs, like Rathmore Golf Club, can be maintained and allow for local talent to shine. The support this year was simply outstanding, and we look forward to the 2014 event.”

Six handicap Bradley Hunter won the Specsavers event at Rathmore with a great score of 44 points last weekend. Kilrea’s roving reporter Trevor Moore hit 41 from his mark of ten to claim second place. This included at two at fifteen which proved critical as Trevor’s last six hole total won out from another 41 points scorer, N Cowan from Castlerock.

Portstewart stalwart Seaver Smith took third place with 40 points on his card. If he hadn’t blanked four and fifteen, who knows. Even with the blanks Seaver’s back nine of 21 kept him in front of Sammy Roxborough who had a matching 40. 23 points was enough to win the front nine prize for Kevin McAleese and it took 24 to do the back nine for Ronnie Porter.

Ian Kettyle birdied the first and the tenth on his way to a round of 68 and the Best Gross prize. Ben Best took the second gross prize with his score of 71.

Judith presented the winners with their prizes at the Rathmore Golf Club, Portrush, on Thursday 9 May. Over the last seven years Specsavers store and hearing centre, Coleraine, has raised in excess of £14,000 for this worthy cause.

Judith also thanked the members of Rathmore Golf Club for all their support throughout the year.
