Brenda wins Maureen Bryson’s Lady President’s Prize

Winner Brenda Maxwell receives her prize from the Lady President, Maureen Bryson.

Brenda Maxwell was the big winner with a superb score of 36 points as 90 ladies competed for the beautiful prizes of Michael Kors handbags and purses.

Playing conditions were ideal with no wind and lots of run on the ball, all of which lead to good play and some excellent scores.

Throughout the day, coffee, tea, cream scones and tempting traybakes were available to the players and were a welcome treat.

In the evening, the ladies enjoyed a delicious meal in the clubhouse provided by Albert, Jane and their staff in the clubhouse. The President welcomed her visitors, daughter Lisa and daughter-in-law Cher and thanked her husband Mervyn for his unstinting support.

In a closely fought competition, Brenda Maxwell was the overall winner with 36 points and Jilana Currie, a promising juvenile player, finished in second position.

Kathleen McDonald finished in third place and Christine McCullough was fourth with 34 points.

In fifth place with 33 points and a better back nine was Lynne Brown who pipped Patricia Clarke into sixth. Best Gross was won by Margaret Rosbotham.

Carol McBratney won a photo frame for the best front nine and the back nine honours went to Sharon Stewart. The best of the nine hole competition players was Claire Warwick and the Gent’s prize went to Dessie Kerr.

Following the prize-giving, the Lady President thanked the ladies for their generous support to her nominated charity, the Ronald McDonald House which provides free ‘home away from home’ accommodation to families and enables them to stay close by while their child is in hospital.

Dedicated and compassionate staff and volunteers offer support and care and a direct telephone line connects families’ rooms in the Ronald McDonald House to their child’s ward.

This charity is very dear to the Lady President’s heart as her grand-daughter recently had to have surgery in Birmingham Children’s Hospital and her parents were able to stay in the local Ronald McDonald House. There, they were able to get a good night’s sleep, knowing that they were only moments away from their daughter.

Over £425 was raised for this well-deserving charity which relies on donations from the public.
