Brian bags an eagle on route to Winter League top spot

Brian Wilkinson (24) hit the ‘shot of the day’ at the 11th and proceeded to top the leaderboard with 24 points in Lisburn’s Winter League last Saturday.

His par four at the 10th for three points was followed by a magnificent second shot to the 11th which ran straight into the hole for an eagle two and five points. He had pars at the next two holes for an amazing 14 points in four holes.

A poor drive at 14 resulted in a bogey. Despite a ‘ding’ at 16 he managed two more pars which left him the clear winner of Section two with two points to spare. Bob Hope was second with Barry Cathcart third on 21.

Stephen Higgins (10) got off to a great start with three pars. After three bogeys he finished with a birdie three at 16 to complete the back nine in 38 and win Section One with 21 points. Patrick Buckley (9) and Linton Kennedy (12) finished one point in arrears with the latter second place on count back.

Lisburn President, Andrew Crawford (21), won Section Three with 22 points. John Millward (23) finished with a par three to claim second place with 20 points. Despite a ‘ding’ at 14, Kenneth Alderdice (27) finished with 19 in third place.

The good spell of weather has left the course in excellent condition and in summer like conditions it was no surprise that 25 of the 130 competitors scored more than 18 points.
