Brown Trout back in action once again

Members of the Brown Trout were glad to get back into competitive golf after the closure of the course over the past two weekends.

The Thompson Cup was awarded to the very worthy winner Sam Reid (12) with an excellent score of 44 points. Sam accumulated 25 points over the first nine thanks mainly to a hat-trick of birdies at seven, eight and nine. Despite bogeying the same three holes second time round he still added another 19 to give him a winning margin of five points over his nearest rival and runner-up Ronnie Milliken (6).

Ronnie displayed his usual consistent golf with a front nine of one over for 20 points adding a two over 37 for a further 19 highlight of Ronnie’s round were birdies at holes four and six.

Former green keeper Ronnie Engall (16) and Donal Mulholland (2) both ended up with 38 points each and after the tiebreak it was Ronnie took third prize with nines of seventeen and twenty-one, failing to score at the difficult second proving rather costly. Donal also had a blank at the 14th. and finished with nines of 20 and 18. The twos kitty was shared by T McGowan, R Milliken, D Mulholland and E. Wilson.

At Kilrea Manor the weekend competition on May 4th and 5th was won by Brian Doherty with a points total of 40. Martin McCann also scored 40, but lost out on the count back. One two only was posted and that was by Eddie O’Kane. Brian Doherty followed this win by winning the following weekend competition on May 11th and 12th with a score of 38 points. and the runner up was Chris Darragh with 37. Again, only one two was posted and that was by Martin McCann.

On Saturday 18 May a couple of dozen brave golfers or should that be foolish golfers took to the fairways of Gracehill to compete for the Sport & Fashion Trophy. Stuart Gowland playing off 23 was victorious with 38pts.
