After securing just four points in the home leg, it was always going to be a difficult task for the local team to progress into the next round.

But Moorland Holmes’ men got off to a great start when Tony Watts won 8 and 6, which meant the team required just two points from the last six games.

But points then proved hard to come and with all the matches going to at least the 16th hole, the scene was set for a very close finish.

However, a win for Brain Haveron 3 and 2 and halfs for Paul Hunter and Norman Johnston meant the team were through on holes, but Richard Todd won his match 2 and 1 to secure an 8 - 6 win and a place in the semi-finals when they will face Ballyclare Golf Club. Dates and tee times to be agreed.

Meanwhile, Tony Watts (42 points) won the top prize of a P&O Irish Sea crossing at Larne Youth’s recent Golf Open Day, held at Cairndhu.
