Callaghan wins at North West

ON an ideal day for scoring, Kevin Callaghan (23) took full advantage at North West with a great score of 43 points to claim top spot, on Sunday.

In second place with the round of the day was five handicapper Jason Spence, who had birdies at the 6th/9th/11th and 12th for a 1 under gross score for 42 points and Tom Grant (21) with 40 points was third.

Gross winner with a 2 over 72 was Colin Starrett and Mathew Stainsby (14) was the back nine winner a 2 over 37 yielded 23 points.

Shot of the day belonged to Padraig MacLochlainn whilst playing the par 4 14th he holed his 2nd shot for a eagle 2.

While at Dunfanaghy Paul Burton and Raymond Kelly with 62 points won the Gents Open 4 BBB Stroke competition on Saturday, while Shaun Cannon and Ken Armstrong were second after a break of tie finish after they scored 63 points.

The Charlie Robinson Cup GOY Stableford competition on Sunday went to Cornelius McMullen after he scored 39 points, second after a BOT finish was Ken Armstrong after he finished with 37 points and Michael Kelly was third after he too scored 37 points.

The Gross prize went to Brian Dolan after he scored 29 points. Brian Griffin with 19 points won the front nine after a BOT finish and with 21 points Henry Shannon won the back nine.
The usual competitions at Dunfanaghy are on this week with the 14 hole on Friday and the Open 4BBB on Saturday and this Sunday is a Monthly Medal Stroke.

While at Redcastle the ladies club confined competition on Monday went to Gena Porter after she scored 37 points, second was Lyn McOwan who scored 36 points and Pat Coull was third.

Next Monday’s competition is the Portstewart Clothing Company, sponsored by Val and Una McGeough and draw times are as follows: 10am, 5pm and 5.30pm sharp.
