Canning wins Redcastle Captain’s Day

Paddy Canning scored an impressive 44 points to claim first prize at Redcastle Golf Club’s Captains Day.

Second place went to Vincent Glenn after scoring 42 points.

Past Captain Danny Carlin claimed third place on a break of tie with 40 points and former President Martin Harkin finished in fourth place also with 40 points.

Willie Havlin claimed the gross prize with 31 gross points. Dan Joe McLaughlin won the front nine prize with Barry Gibson taking the back nine. Past Captains prize was claimed by Willie McClelland, the committee prize went to Andy Riddle.

Visitors prize went to Bernard Kelly with 36 points. Ladies competition was won by Oonagh McDermott with Lady Captain Gina Porter taking second place. Longest drive was hit by Alan O’Bryan.

Nine handicapper Richard Ayton, who had three birdies on the front nine was the clear winner of the Thursday Open at Prehen.

Thursday Open’s continue until the end of September.

Richard who finished with 41 points was three points clear of Ken McClintock (24) with Club Captain, John Rosborough (15) with 37 points took third spot after a break of tie finish.

While Tuesday’s City of Derry Ladies competition was a joint affair with both the Jean Graham and Marjorie Elder trophies up for grabs.

Naoimh Quigg (2) with 35 points claimed the Jean Graham accolade and Kathy Jackson (26) with 25 points won the Majorie Elder prize and both ladies will collect their trophies at the annual general meeting.

Dolores O’Reilly (17) with 12 points won the front nine competition.
