Captain Sam wins a Medal prize as Stephen secures David Spratt Trophy

Last Saturday (5th September) over 200 golfers took part in the Autumn Medal stroke competition at Dunmurry Golf Club.

In the Section One (0-10) handicap range, it was Club Captain Sam Blackley (10) who took top spot thanks to an excellent 77 for a nett 67.

Sam set up the win thanks to an excellent first nine of a two over par 37, the highlight being a birdie two on the seventh.

Despite dropping shots on three of the last four holes, Sam had done enough to edge out John Dickinson (10) and Kyle Drury (8) who both returned nett 69s.

Section two (11-18) produced the best score of the day from Jonathan Graham (16) who went round in 82 shots for a nett 66 to edge out John Dickson (17) on the better back nine.

Jonathan recovered from dropping eight shots in four holes on the front nine with six pars on the back to clinch his top spot in Section Two.

Paul Coome (12) finished third following his son’s victory last week.

In Section Three, 24 handicapper Peter Dalton clinched top spot thanks to a 91 for a nett 67. Peter picked up pars at both par three on the front nine and further pars on 14th and 15th clinched him victory from Peter McKenna (23) 68 nett, and Jim Gartland (22) 69.

The gross prize went to Graeme Dickson level par 70. Graeme was three over par after nine holes and birdies on 12th, 13th, and 17th saw him complete the back nine in 32 blows to edge Glenn McAuley on the better back nine.

DAVID SPRATT TROPHY

On Saturday, 29th August the David Spratt Trophy was won by Stephen Coombe with an excellent round of 41 points.

Andy Holdsworth was second on 40 points, with Paul Brannigan third on 39 points.

Derek McLachlan’s impressive round of 68 secured him the Best Gross Prize.

Highlight of the day was John Wilson’s (Snr) hole-in-one at the seventh. His perfectly struck eight-iron soared majestically

towards its target, rolling inexorably towards the hole.

Also on Saturday, Graham Dickson produced an eagle two at the second hole during his excellent round of 69.

The Strathearn Cup winner on Saturday was Paul Cushnan.
