Captain takes top spot at ‘shiverwood’

It was a cold and windy day at Silverwood Golf Club on Saturday, with a lot of wintery showers for the hardy players who braved the elements to play golf.

The winner with 40 points was club captain Frank Gallagher.

Frank had 21 points on his front nine holes and this included five pars at the 1st, 2nd, 4th, 7th and 8th holes with four single bogeys.

He recorded 19 points on his back seven holes, with two birdies at the 13th and 14th holes, three pars at the 10th, 12th and 18th and two bogeys to win by one shot for this popular player.

In second place was Shane Skelton with 39 points. He had 21 points on his front nine which included seven pars at the 1st, 2nd, 4th, 5th, 6th, 7th and 8th holes and two bogeys at the 3rd and 9th holes.

His back seven contained two birdies at the 13th and 14th holes, four pars at the 10th, 11th ,12th and 18th holes,and one bogey at the 15th hole for 18 points and a total of 39.

Third place went to Thomas Marley with 37 points.

Thomas has been playing steady golf over the last couple of weeks and this continued this week. He scored 21 points on his front nine with four pars at the 4th, 5th, 7th and 8th holes, four bogeys and one double bogey at the 6th hole. He had 16 points on his back seven holes, with one birdie at the 18th, one par at the 13th, four bogeys and one double bogey at the 11th hole.

The gross prize was won yet again by Fintan McAreavey with a level par round of golf,and 32 gross points.

In-form Fintan had a front nine of one over par, with one birdie at the 7th hole, six pars and two bogeys at the 2nd and 3rd holes.

His back seven holes included two birdies at the 11th and 18th holes, one bogey at the 13th hole and four pars for a one under back seven and a level par round of golf.

The winner of the senior prize was David Mills with 36 points. He had 19 points on his front nine and 17 on his back seven holes with the highlight being the birdie two at the 14th money hole for a share of the two’s money.
