Captain’s Day bonanza at four East Antrim clubs

There was a bit of a Captain’s Day bonanza on Saturday with Cairndhu, Carrick, Ballyclare and City of Belfast all hitting the fairways for one of biggest dates on their golfing calendars.

Jack Murphy topped the field at Cairndhu for Danny McMullan’s big day.

Andrew McLean won Des Nelson’s Captain’s Day at Carrickfergus Golf Club. McLean carded 40 points and finished ahead of Tommy Knocker and Raymond Crooks, who also scored 40.

In the low handicap section, Drew Meek was the winner with 37 points, beating Tom Lyttle with the same score. The high handicap section winner was Eddie Roberts (39 points), and S. Young was second with the same score. Gross Prize: Graeme Arthur (36 points).

Other winners were: Harry Wade (Council Prize, 37 points); John McQuillan (Past Captain’s prize, 38 pts); Ed Arbuthnot (Anno Domini, 38 pts); Jonathan Nelson (Guest Prize, 35 pts); J. Muise (Student Prize, 38 pts); Raymond Haggan (Captain’s Drive); Helen Vizard (Ladies’ Prize, 70 nett).

The big winner at David Robinson’s Captain’s Day at Ballyclare was Neill McCrea who outshone all the young guns with a fantastic score of 45 points.
