CENTENARY SUCCESS FOR KENNY’S MEN

And they have just done it. Last Sunday, Kenny Stevenson took his Senior Cowdy Cup team to County Armagh for the second leg of the final. His team had won the home leg 23-9 so they needed nine and a half points for victory.

First out was Colin Wilton (scr) against Jarlath McReynolds (1). Colin lost 4&3 and he got no points.

Rory Madeley (3) was next to play against John Maguire (2). Rory was 1 up after 9 holes but lost the match by one hole. Rory was unlucky to get only one point.

Luke Woods (3) played Stewart Stevenson (3) in game number three. Luke was one down after nine but played a blinder on the second nine to win 4&2. Luke got three points.

Josh Lockhart (5), in the fourth game, played Neil Cromwell (3). Josh was two up after nine holes but lost by 2&1. Josh got one point.

Jonathan Shannon (5) played James Johnson (4) in the fifth game. Jonathan got a half match and 2 points but he wasn’t happy. He was dormie 2 up and lost the last two holes. It was still a crucial half match for Banbridge.

Kieran Magennis (5) surprisingly lost 3&2 against Shay Brady (5) and he got no points.

It was all down to the last two games. William Malcolmson won his game 2&1 and got three points. Jonathan Burns was dormie 2 up when he was called in.

Banbridge Golf Club have had more than their share of sad days in this centenary year and it is wonderful to see everyone smiling again. The Senior Cowdy victory of 2013 will be long remembered and rightfully so.
