Charity Day win for duo

ON Saturday Faughan Valley held Lady Captains Charity Day with all proceeds going to Friends of the Cancer Centre, the lady Captain on behalf of Faughan Valley would like to thank all that took part and gave their time to make it yet another success for a well worthy charity, with a cheque of £800 being handed over to the charity.

In the ladies competition Marion Sayers (27) took first spot well ahead of the rest of the field with 42 points, second and third spot was decided on a break of tie between Marion Robb (18) and Loren Smallwoods (20) both scoring 34 points, with Eileen taking second spot.

The front nine was won by one of the visitors, Brenda Chauhan of City of Derry with 18 points, and Lady Captain Kathleen Cooke took the back nine with 20 points.

Kathleen was also the winner of the Nearest the Pin prize, whilst Nadine Lynch hit the Longest Drive.

In the men’s competition the winner was Nial McTaggart (18) with 38 points, Paul Duffy (5) took second spot with 36 points and in third spot was John Huw Cleghorn with 35 points.

The Juvenile prize went to Shane McGahon (8) with 35 points, with the winner of the front nine was Damien Murphy with 20 points and Patrick Carton taking the back nine with 21 points.

On Sunday, the two-man scramble was cancelled due to numbers and substituting it with an open stableford competition, with Edwin Gallagher (14) taking first spot from Eoghan Brolly (23) after a BOT finish, both carding 40 points, and in third spot was Shane McGahon with 39 points.

In the midweek competition the winner was Glenn Curran (9) with a score of 35 playing, in second spot was Ryan Godfrey (11) with 34 points and Lee Totton (13) took third spot with 33 points.

This weekend the club is hosting on Saturday a monthly medal competition, whilst on Sunday there will be an Open Stableford competition down for decision.
