Chris wins Perpetual trophy at Lisburn GC

Chris Budd (9) recovered from a ‘ding’ at the first hole to win the George Donaldson Perpetual Trophy at Lisburn Golf Club with 42 points.

John McMillan (21) had an ideal start. He holed a wedge pitch for an eagle three to finish second on 40 points. Ian Kenny (11) was third on 39. Ryan Symington won the gross prize with 35 points.

Four Lisburn boys competed in the Munster boys Under 15 championships at Bantry in the south west corner of Ireland.

Congratulations to Joshua Robinson who finished joint third. His score of 75 was three behind the winner Allan Hill (Roscommon) with Jack Madden (Dungannon) in second place on 74. Joshua who plays off 9 had the best net score.

Aaron Marshall finished on 78 with Kyle Patton on 83. Jack Shellard also competed.

A few days later Joshua made a great start to the Leinster Boys at Beaverstown. Three birdies on the front nine gave him a one over par 37. Unfortunately three double bogeys gave him 44 for the back nine and a total of 81 which left him in 37th place. The championship was won by Cameron Raymond from Newlands with a round of 75.Kyle Patton finished his round in 85.

Colin Reid had twos at 16 and 18 to win the Wednesday Stableford with 40 pts. His great finish gave him top place over Andrew Coulter on count back with Marshall McConnell 3rd on 38pts.

Inter club competitions

After a 2 – 2 home draw, Lisburn went out of the Junior Cowdy Cup at St Patrick’s last Sunday. Lisburn lost the top two matches at Downpatrick with Alan Gilmore and Philip Stewart losing the deciding match on the last green.

Martin Lilley and Rodney Osbourne won home and away matches against Portadown in the Sam Rutherford Cup to help Lisburn to an overall victory. Chris Budd and Stephen Stewart also won at Portadown and were two ahead when called in at Lisburn.

Lisburn play Strabane at Rossmore in the Jimmy Bruen Shield on Wednesday.

Three American visitors were in awe of the Lisburn course after playing it recently. They had never played on better greens and found the whole course in pristine condition. They enjoyed the challenge the course presented and hope to return next year with some friends.
