Christmas turkey comes early to Rockmount

THE heavy rain on Friday did not spoil the golf at Rockmount Golf Club on Saturday; week eight of the 2012/2013 Andrew Annett Winter League competition was played in fair conditions.

The proprietor Robert Patterson (10) was top scorer on the day with 29 points, this gave him a one point advantage over Andrew Agnew (15) who was second having scored 28 points. In seventeen years of trying this is the first turkey voucher Robert Patterson has won in this competition. In third place was John Curley (11) with 27 points beating Sam Gilmore (4) and Thomas Mearns (12) into fourth and fifth respectively; both scored 27 points and places were decided on count-back.

The gross prize went to Ryan Wilson (4) who had a one under par round of 47 shot’s, after a bogey at the first Ryan had two birdies and nine pars on his card. In the four leagues the first and second placed teams are; in league A, ‘Anything but Hockey’ 263 and ‘Handcuffed to an Idiot’ 257. In league B, first and second have swapped places from last week ‘Oggie and the Sprinkler Heads’ have 273 and ‘This is Madness’ have 266. In league C, team ‘Life without Brian’ have 263 and have jumped from third last week to first pushing the ‘Come Back Kids’ who have 261 down into second. In league D, team ‘Frankly Awful’ whilst not the top scoring team in all the leagues have 272 and have opened up the biggest gap between the first and second in all leagues; with team ‘Joseph’s Dream Team’ their nearest challengers on 258. The scores take into account the four dropped scores.

In the singles competition’s (0-13) section is led by Russell McDonald with 88 points and James Adams has moved to second with 86 points; (13.1-18.5) section is led by Frank Wallace with 90 points with Stephen Young on 88 points in second place; (18.6-28) section is led by Colin McClelland on 93 points with Frank McCourt second on 91 points.
