Christopher off to St. Andrews

The recent UKPCC Qualifier at Silverwood Golf Club gave members the chance to qualify to play at St Andrews Scotland, the home of golf, and with the course in great condition and super greens there were a lot of very good scores.

The winner with 44 points was Christopher Lamont (jun), he had 23 points on the front nine with five pars, three bogeys and one double bogey.

His back nine of 21 points contained four pars, three bogeys and two double bogeys but this was still good enough to win by one shot.

In second place and with the best score of the day by far, and with a perfect round was Fintan McAreavey who shot a fantastic four under gross 68 which equalled 43 points.

Fintan has been playing some brilliant golf all year and has been picking up prizes on a regular basis and this continued with 14 pars and four birdies on the 7th 10th 14th and 18th holes to complete a great round of golf.

In third place was Kieran McAlinden again with 43 points. Kieran had 23 points on his front nine that included one birdie at the 5th hole and four pars, his back nine contained two pars, six bogeys, and one triple bogey for 20 points and his total of 43.

The gross prize was won by John Marley with 35 points which equalled a one par 73. John went round the front nine in one over par with one birdie at the 7th hole two bogeys at the 2nd and 3rd holes, and six pars, his back nine of level par contained two birdies at the 15th and 18th holes, two bogeys at the 11th and 16th holes and five pars for a solid round of golf.

Fourth prize went to Jim Doran with another 43 points. Jim had 23 points on the front nine with two birdies at the 1st and 2nd holes, five pars, one bogey and one double bogey. His back nine of 20 points contained five pars and four bogeys.

Fifth was Dominic Marsden with 42 points, he had 18 points on his front nine and a great 24 points on his back nine.

Section prizes: 0-12 Michael Devlin 39pts; 13-18 Stephen Thompson 40pts; 19-28 James Nicholl 42pts.

The senior prize was collected by John McConville with 39pts while the junior prize was won by Paul Gorman.

It was a monthly medal competition at Silverwood on Saturday.

The winner with a net 66 was David Mulholland, he had a front nine of 40 with two birdies at the 2nd and 9th holes, two pars at the 3rd and 4th holes, three bogeys and two double bogeys.

His back nine of 38 was compiled with four straight bogeys from the 10th to the 13th holes and it looked ominous for Davey, but three birdies in the last five holes at the 14th 17th and 18th holes was good enough to win with one shot to spare.

In second place with a net 67 was Paul Moore, Paul had a front nine of 43 which included four pars at the 1st 4th 7th and 9th holes. His back nine of 45 contained three pars four bogeys and two double bogeys for his total of 88 nett 67.

In third place and continuing his great form was Fintan McAreavey with the best score of the day with a two under gross.

Fintan went around the front nine in 33 shots with three birdies at the 1st 2nd and 9th holes, with his only blemish a bogey at the 6th hole, his back nine of level par contained seven pars one bogey, and one birdie at the 18th hole for another great round of golf for this consistent 2 handicapper.

The gross prize was won by John Marley with a 74, he had a front nine of 36 with two bogeys, six pars, and one birdie at the 4th hole. His back nine of 38 was very consistent with eight pars and only one bogey to continue his fine recent form.

Fourth with a net 67 was Eamon Nelson who had a front nine of 39 with six pars two bogeys and one double bogey, his back nine of 48 was compiled with two pars, four bogeys, two double bogeys, a one triple bogey.

Fifth place went to Paul McFadden with a nett 68, he had a front nine of 39 which included a birdie at the 9th hole, four pars, three bogeys and one double bogey, his back nine of 41 contained six pars, two bogeys, and one double bogey.

The senior prize was picked up by Finbar Headley with a nett 70.

Section prizes: 0-12 Eugene McKeever nett 70; 13-18 Peter McAtasney nett 68 ; 19-28 Thomas Marley nett 70.
