Clarke on top again

NINE handicapper Jarleath Clarke clocked up his third victory (and his sixth prize in all) of the season when he took home the prestigious Professional’s (Sam Smallwoods) prize at Prehen on Saturday.

A fine 42 points that he started with a birdie two at the difficult opening hole. For good measure he added another two at ‘The Crow’s Nest’.

Jimmy Mohan (14) was doing just nicely with 20 points after 10 holes but standing on the 13th tee he had accumulated 29 points thanks to a fabulous birdie, hole-in-one sequence on the 11th and 12th.

He finished with 41 points overall for second place on a count back from another in form player Aubrey Taylor (7) who in turn relegated Mickey Lynch (22) into fourth place on another count back.

Ernie Heywood (0) was best of the low men and took the gross prize with his well compiled level par round of 36 points.

Twenty points on the first nine set him up and he progressed steadily after that until he came to the 16th to register a nasty blank but six points on the last two holes including a vital birdie on the 18th gave him victory by one point from Lester Moore (2) who also had the best gross on the day a finely compiled 35 points. Third place went to Fred Young (8) on a count back with 35 points.

Best of the visitors was Brian Wallace (7) Dunfanaghy who scored 32 points and took the prize courtesy of a count back.
