Close finishes throughout divisions at Galgorm Castle

There were close finishes to all Divisions in the Front 9 Sweep held at Galgorm Castle Golf Club.

Through four in Division 1 George Watt (5) was one, two and three points ahead of Michael Casson (6), Rod Lennox (6) and Philip Smyth (4) (‘ding’ at four).

Casson after a run of three pars joined Watt (par, bogey, par) with two to play. Smyth (par, birdie, par) was a point behind with Lennox (bogey, par , bogey) another two points down.

Casson finished with a par and a bogey to win by one point from Rod Lennox who came with a late rally (par, birdie) to join Watt (par, bogey) and with a better last six Lennox took second place with Watt third. Smyth (par, bogey) was a further point behind.

Michael Nesbitt (7) and playing partner John Carruthers (8) were vying for the lead in Division 2 after three with Trevor Dawson (7), Gerard Lynn (8) and Keith Dinsmore (8) a point behind.

Approaching the par three seventh Dinsmore after three pars had moved into a one point lead from Nesbitt (par, double bogey, par) and Lynn (bogey, par, par) with Dawson (two bogeys and a par) and Carruthers (‘ding’, par, par) a further point behind.

Dawson (par, birdie, bogey), Lynn (par, bogey, par), Dinsmore (par, double bogey, par) and Carruthers (three pars) all finished together but were unable to stop M Nesbitt (bogey, par, birdie) from taking first place by one point.

Dawson, with a better last three, took second place with Lynn (better last three) third.

In Division 3 after four George Simpson (9) and Norman Dunbar (9) were one point ahead of Raymond Steele (10) who was one point ahead of Richard McNeill (12) and Timothy D’Arcy (9).

Through seven Steele and Dunbar were now ahead, leading by one point from Simpson, D’Arcy and McNeill.

McNeill with a par, bogey finishcame home to win by one point from Simpson (par, bogey), Dunbar (two bogeys), Steele (two bogeys) and D’Arcy (bogey, par).

D’Arcy with a better last six finished in second place with Steele (better last six) third. Steven Penney won the Gross.

Twos were recorded by: D Keys, P Hughes, N Fitzsimmons, P Galloway, B Geggarty, T D’Arcy and D King.

BACK NINE SWEEP

After the tenth Colin Orr (10) was two points ahead of Brian McFall (13) and Ivan Alexander (7); a lead which he held throughout the backnine. McFall (two bogeys) finished second. Alexander (two pars) was another point behind at the finish.
