Club competition reaches the quarter-final stage

THE club Mixed Foursomes Championship has reached the quarter-final stage.

The line-up is as follows:

1. Seamus and Jacinta Rooney will play Kevin Smyth and Hilda Caughey.

Seamus and Jacinta will start as favourites but Kevin and Hilda will fear no one after their amazing win over Paul and Anne Magennis.

2. Walter and Glennis Smyth will play Eamon and Gina McConville. There is nothing much between these pairs but Eamon and Gina would have the edge. Their record in mixed foursomes is impressive.

3. Merton McDowell and Vivian Faulkner will play Neil Madeley and Helen Cocks. Merton and Vivian are the surprise package of this competition. But they now meet the most experienced pairing in the club and that may prove a hill too far. Neil and Helen had to go to the 19th hole to beat Kenny and Diana Whan in round three.

4. Brendan Meade and Marlene Nelson will play Declan and Mary Dooher. Mary would dearly love to win this competition in her year as lady captain. Brendan and Marlene will not be taking that into consideration.

They will be four very interesting matches, that’s for sure.
