Cobb a load of this! Aaron is the Lost Boy of the Year

After the completion of their fourth season, the award winners were announced and prizes distributed.

The ninth and final round of the season was held at Hilton Templepatrick, with Aaron Cobb picking up the monthly gong, coming home with 39 points. This proved to be the big score that confirmed Aaron’s season title credentials, as he stormed home to victory after an extremely impressive individual performance throughout the whole season.

Aaron made his intention known as early as the fourth round during the summer at Kilkeel when he socred 40 points, as he peaked when it mattered, to earn the favourites tag from an early stage.

His average score for his best six rounds out of nine was 36.3 points, and he finished some 20 points ahead of runner up, newcomer Craig Anderson. Craig added the Instyle Carpets Match Play title to his trophy cabinet as well, defeating past Captain Andy Marks in a nail biting playoff hole at Hilton Templepatrick.

This was the culmination of a season long Match Play Championship, with Marks gaining a final place after defeating eventual league winner Cobb in the semi-final at Portadown and Anderson defeating Keith Maguire at the same venue.

Stuart McCartney finished an impressive third place whilst also picking up a prize for the most Closest to the Pins throughout the season.

Chris McGladdery, playing off a scratch handicap this year in the society, picked up the most longest drives, despite only playing three rounds this year.

The 2015 Captain and 2013 league champion Garreth Sloan finished in fourth place, closely followed by his right hand man David Sterritt.

The final main award was the John Sterritt Society Man of the Year award. This is a new award and is presented to a member who has made that extra effort throughout the season, be it bringing in new members, assisting with organisation during outings, showing commitment throughout the outings etc. This year the award went to Stuart McCartney.

All in all, it has been a very successful season for the Lost Boys Golf Society with a record 23 members turning out at both Edenmore and Hilton Templepatrick this year and a total of 42 different players playing throughout the season, whilst David Sterritt scored the most points to date at one outing (46 points at Portmarnock).

Outgoing Captain Garreth paid tribute to all who had contributed to an extremely enjoyable year and thanked everyone for their support, from the large numbers at the first outing at a treacherous Edenmore to the joys and banter of the Captain’s Weekend in Portmarnock.

The Incoming 2016 Captain David Sterritt thanked Garreth for his own individual commitment and dedication throughout the year and made it known to all that he would be a very difficult act to follow.

The Lost Boys now earn a welcome winter break and look forward to the 2016 season which tees off in February under the leadership of Sterritt.
