Cochrane continues winning form

PRESIDENT Nelson McGonagle held his President's Day amid the swirling winds on the banks of the Roe, whilst one man proved that a rich vein of form is hard to work with.

Ricky Cochrane, fresh from handling winds to bring home the Scratch Cup, was to get his hands on the President's Trophy as well, recording a stunning two under par, which can only be described as disappointing when you consider he was five under after ten. Ricky's run of form shows no signs of abating as he is also in the final of the Scratch Matchplay, the final of the Roe Park Cup and the final of the Monthly Medals competition.

John Holmes took the Gross prize on Saturday, with a round of level par, including the prize for the longest drive on 18, 310 yards, into the wind.

Alan Dallas took the second place with 41 points, with Conor Kelly in third on 40. Rob Stewart took the font nine prize with 22 points but choked badly after the turn, whilst Ross King took the back nine with 20. Willie McCormick took the Seniors prize with 40 points and David Gault claimed the remaining prize for Nearest the Pin.

Thursday evening saw a lamentable turn out for a three club challenge, with the honours taken by Ross Brown.

The Golfer of the Year Award was concluded at the end of last month, with Andy Young securing first place, in the competition sponsored by the Radisson Hotel.

Conor Kelly took the second place whilst David Gault took third, with all three golfers returning solid scores throughout the season.

The Singles competition is nearer a conclusion as the final sees Joe O'Neill take on Martin Butcher and the Seniors final line up seeing long time veteran Willie Scott taking on the ever grey Cecil Holmes.

Next weekend sees the final Monthly medal being played, before the Major Finals Day the following Saturday.
