Council to recognise sisters’ success

LISBURN City Council have agreed to congratulate local sisters Paula and Laura Grant by writing to the girls, after Paula’s recent success when she won the title of Irish Golfing Champion, the title her sister held last year.

At their Monthly Committee meeting on Tuesday evening it was suggested the Council write to the girls, as well as Lisburn Golf Club Captain Noel Robinson, on their success, after Paula won the Lancome Irish Girls Close Amateur Championship, which Laura had won in 2010.

Councillor John Palmer made the suggestion to congratulate the Grant sisters after it was proposed that the Council collectively write to congratulate Darren Clarke on his British Open Championship win.

Councillor Thomas Beckett said that Clarke’s success, together with the success of Graeme McDowell and Rory McIlroy had left Northern Ireland on a “high”.

Councillor Palmer added: “I think we should also include Paula Grant and her sister Laura.”

Alderman Paul Porter added: “I agree, I was privileged to host a reception last year which the Grant sisters attended. Lisburn Golf Club has been very successful lately and I would also include the Captain of Lisburn Golf Club. It’s good to recognise local clubs.”

The proposals were accepted.
