Coyle off to aflier at Prehen

RADIO Foyle’s Sean Coyle (20) got his Sunday Society quest for Golfer of the Year off to a winning start in the first of this season’s competitions with a finely compiled 42 points.

He did however require a tie break to go in his favour for his victory that came courtesy of Gary Leckey (10) who also had 42 points but lost out on the back nine. Gary had a whirlwind start to his round, a one under par gross front nine giving him a fabulous 24 points.

Noel McDermott (21) was third, best of a trio on 40 points with Richard Hamilton (17) and Peter Deans (26) finishing 4th and 5th respectively and the 6th and final place went to Liam McCafferty (22) who scored 39 points, the best of four scores on that mark on the count back.

While the Thursday Society had their first competition of the new season last week and a very impressive entry of sixty members took to the fairways.

Three players scored 39 points and the best of these on a count back was Arthur McMemamin (19). He had 20 points on the back nine that included two sevens. Connie McAllister (21) had 19 points on his back nine to give him the verdict over third placed John Flynn (16) a newcomer to the Society who seemed to have the competition sewn up until a disastrous blank on the 17th left him with 18 points on his back nine

The Club Stableford on Saturday was decided after a break of tie finish with Tony McDermott (12) just pippping Jim McDaid (19) after the duo both finished with 40 points, third was also decided by a BOT finish with Noel Kehoe (17) who scored 39 points.

Prehen members are advised that the Turkey competitions resume on Saturday.
