Crumlish shines at Prehen

Four handicapper John Crumlish continued his fine recent good form with an overall best gross and best nett winning achievement in Saturday’s Stableford competition, at City of Derry.

He scored a very impressive 41 points after going round the course in 70 strokes. George (better known as Ortie) Phillips (16) was the best of a trio on 39 points and he got the second prize that was decided over the last six holes.

Christy Donaghy (12) finished in third place and the fourth nett place only awarded when the best gross has finished in the top three nett was taken by Jonathan Love (10).

City of Derry’s Thursday Society resumed last week after the Summer break under the captaincy of Noel O’Connell and first up on the podium was Tony McCann (13) who mastered the difficult scoring conditions best of all with 38 points.

Early starter Seamus Given (17) set the pace at 37 points and that score led until the last card was counted leaving him in the second spot. A break of tie on 36 points decided the third prize in favour of Bert Glackin (15).
