Daniel has the ‘Wright’ gameplan for top spot

Daniel Wright had the only return of 40 points and duly captured the main prize in the annual Chest, Heart and Stroke charity event last Wednesday.

On the front nine Daniel managed seven pars. He had a bogey at the sixth but made amends with a birdie at the seventh. He birdied holes ten and eleven to fast track the back nine. On the other seven holes he mixed three bogeys with four pars. He dropped shots at holes twelve, thirteen and sixteen. Runner-up was Terry McCrory with 39 points. Playing off a nineteen handicap Terry was impressive on the back nine. On the front side he had three double bogeys. However a par at the fifth and a birdie at the eighth kept his challenge intact. A par, birdie, par provided an excellent platform to the back nine. Further pars at holes fifteen and eighteen were his other critical scores. A no-return at the seventeenth possibly cost him first place.

Jim Stevenson posted another score of 39 points to capture third spot. He kept mistakes to a minimum and a double bogey at the fifteenth was his only wayward hole. Par figures at holes six, seven and nine kept him in the hunt through the opening nine. A trio of pars starting at the twelfth got his back nine in check. He closed off his round with a birdie and par. There were four scores of 38 points but only two were in the prizes. Fourth net went to Jim McKee. The fifth and last net prize went to Paul McKiernan with 38 points. The gross award was captured by Francie Tallon. This two handicapper triumphed with 34 gross points.

The following also posted returns in red figures: 38 points: Chris Donald, Peter McCusker. 37 pts: Ciaran Seeley, Seamus McKavanagh Jnr, Michael Purdy, Gary Campbell.
