Daniel is Wednesday Sweep winner

LAST Wednesday it was the turn of the gents to take part in their usual Wednesday Sweep.

Only seven golfers attained a score of 37 points or better. The first net prize went to Daniel Wright with his winning total of 40 points. Playing off a six handicap Daniel was through the opening nine with six pars on his card. He fell short with bogeys on holes three, six and seven. He was pretty impressive on the back nine.

Birdies came his way at holes ten and twelve while his only bogey came on the fourteenth. Par figures on the rest of the holes nudged him ahead of the field.

Captain Sean Wilson was also impressive with a score of 40 points but had to settle for the runners-up place. This sixteen handicapper had a solid enough start on the front side with a birdie on the third ably supported by pars at holes one, three, five and eight. On the other side of the course pars at holes ten, eleven and seventeen were his praiseworthy efforts. A couple of double bogeys cost him outright success.

The final net prize went to old hand Matt Connolly with his total of 39 points. This thirteen handicapper had scores ranging from a birdie on the fifth to double bogeys on holes six and fifteen. The highlight of his play was his sequence of pars from the seventh through to the tenth. A brace of pars at holes twelve, thirteen and sixteen, seventeen further cemented his winning return.

The weekly gross award went to John Horan. This seven handicapper triumphed with 32 gross points. On the front nine John had four pars, four bogeys and a no-return on the ninth. Pars came at holes two, four, five and eight. He played immaculately on the inward nine to pencil in two birdies and seven pars. Holes twelve and seventeen yielded the birdies.

The golfers under par were as follows: 38 pts: Lawrence McGrady; 37 pts: Peter Wright, Gerard Henderson.
