Firstly his Holt Shield charges earned an excellent draw away at Bangor on Thursday, then, clearly inspired by their performance, provided a performance of his own to capture the Max McCready Salver.

The 10 handicapper shot a stunning two over par 72, giving him a best of the day nett 62 and a two shot victory over Roy McGrath.

Darryl began solidly with three straight pars, before dropping a shot at the par 5, fourth hole.

A fifteen foot birdie putt at the fifth returned him to level par but two consecutive three putt bogeys at seven and eight saw him go two over the card.

He remained at two over through the ninth after another solid par, and he continued his steady play with pars at the next four holes.

A second birdie arrived at the short par 4, fourteenth, and a fine up and down from the green side bunker at fifteen maintained his one over score.

He moved back to two over the card once more with a bogey at sixteen before finishing strongly with two comfortable pars, giving him the victory.

Eight handicapper, Roy McGrath, matched Darryl’s gross score of 72, to take second place with a nett 64.

Roy parred his first five holes before bogeying the sixth and seventh, nevertheless he reached the turn at two over par with pars at the eighth and ninth.

Two more bogeys followed, early on the back nine, taking Roy to four over par for the day, and seemingly out of the running.

He ensured himself of a rousing finish with two birdies in his last four holes, coming at the tough fifteenth and the short par 4, seventeenth, enabling him to finish at two over par and with that a nett 64 and second place.

Ulster Cup golfer, Sean McIlvenny grabbed third place with a fine nett 65.

The ten handicapper got off to a slow start, bogeying the second and double bogeying the fourth.

Two more bogeys followed at the sixth and eighth before a birdie at the ninth gave him a glimmer of hope, helping him turn in four over par.

Another birdie followed soon after, at the eleventh, before he ran off pars at his next five holes.

A sloppy bogey, bogey finish, however, meant he had to settle for third spot on nett 65, a shot behind Roy.

Brendan McKeown (19) took fourth place with a nett 66. His highlight being an excellent two at the short seventh.

Martin Fagan (19) produced a strong finish of four pars to grab fifth place with a nett 67 on count back.

The best gross score went to Ian Moore (0) who shot a one over par 71.

Ian’s solid start was enhanced by a birdie at the fifth, moving him to one under the card, but two late bogeys at eight and nine saw him reach the turn in one over par.

A birdie at eleven restored parity before a bogey at seventeen meant he was to end the day on one over.
