David battles back to clinch the victory in the Suffolk Cup

The winner was one of the last to complete their round, 17 handicapper David Moore edging home with two points to spare after returning 40 points.

David had a slow start, double bogeying the first, but pars at the second, fourth and seventh saw him finish the front in 20 points.

He recorded another par at the 10th and even had the luxury of not scoring at the 11th, before recording further pars at the 12th, 15th and 18th for another 20.

The next four places all carded 38 with Jerry Milliken (13) claiming second thanks to his 21 points on the back nine. He started the back nine with four pars and a birdie on the 13th helped him to pick up a prize. Noel Quinn (14) had a steady front nine and thanks to pars at the 11th and 17th and a birdie on the 11th, he carded 20 points on the back nine to clinch third spot.

Fourth spot went to Antoin Millen (18) thanks to 19 points on each nine while John Kelly (23) had to settle for fifth after he failed to capitalise on his front nine of 20 points.

The gross prize went to Ian Moore (0) with a one under 69. Ian dropped shots at the eighth and 14th but recorded three birdies at the fourth, fifth and 13th to clinch victory.

On Sunday Dunmurry’s senior golfers headed to Balmoral for the first leg of the Belfast and District semi-final and returned home with a superb 5.5-1.5 victory.

In a keenly contested gane, five matches went to the 18th green. First out, Glen McAuley came from three down to win one up on the 18th, while Graeme Dickson and Peter Kerr both birdied 17th and 18th to also win one up.

Ian Moore lost on the last as Stephen Crowe lost the 18th to halve his match. Darren Crowe and Chris Morgan both won comfortably.

On Monday night, Dunmurry backed up their excellent performance to progress to the final.

Chris Morgan continued his fine form being five under par when he won on the 11th green. Peter Kerr also won three and two around the same time as Glenn McAuley won on the 13th, allowing all the other games to be called in.

Dunmurry will now play Banbridge or Shandon Park in the final, home and away before the 13th September.
