DAVID IS CENTENARY CUP WINNER AT PORTSTEWART

Another big score of 44 points was needed to gain victory in the Centenary Trophy at Portstewart GC and David Crawford was the man to score them.

The eleven handicapper covered the first nine holes of the Strand Course in two under par gross and had 26 points on the card for his efforts. Birdies were logged with threes at the second and eighth and a two was added in at the sixth. With the hard work done David relaxed a bit on the inward nine by scoring three bogeys and a blank at the short fifteenth. He also claimed a couple of three pointers to drag his points up to 18 for the nine and 44 overall.

Russell Fillis was the man to suffer as he returned a creditable 42 points from his mark of 12. Scoring only at seven of the opening nine holes Russell still had 20 points bagged helped by his eagle three at the long seventh. He decided to score at all nine on the return leg, birdying the short twelfth and the par five fourteenth, to score 22 home. Low Section topped plaudit went to John Cameron for his 41 points tally.

A steady 20 points came from the front nine, also with a blank at the sixth, before a birdie three slipped in at eleven for four points. A couple of single pointers came John’s way but a strong 4, 4, 4, finish boosted the points to 41 with 21 back. The hIgh Section Master was Roy Martin with another 41 points. Roy had a no return hole in each nine but plucked 21 from the front and another 20 from the back to get his reward.

John Taylor shot a gross 72, level par, to grab the Best Gross award. Birdies at three six and nine saw him out in two under par 34 and after the turn it was steady undramatic golf that added a two over par 38 for his 72 round.
