David tops a high-scoring field with one of his best rounds ever at Banbridge Golf Club

The standard of scoring was just brilliant.

The calculated standard scratch score was nett 68 or 37 points. A total of 23 players bettered the CSS.

Mark Watt (16) led the group of eleven players with 38 points.

Matthew Mallon (6), Kieran Magennis (5), Philip Strong (22), Tom Mulholland (9), Robert Canning (19), B.J. McAnarney (23), Kenny Jones (19), Roy McAfee (12), Rory Madeley (5) and Joe Whiteside (15) also had 38 points.

John Canning (21), Tommy Gillespie (12) and Colin Kennedy (12) each had 39 points.

John was fortunate enough to finish runner-up in the high section (18+).

Colin Wilton (2) and Declan Dooher (17) both had 40 points. Anyone with 40 points or better received a prize.

Colin was runner-up in the low section (0-12) and Declan won the senior prize.

Cathal O’Neill (11) was alone on 41 points. That was good enough to win the low section.

The only blemish on Cathal’s card was a ding at the ninth hole.

Cathal McNiff (15) and Joe Thompson (18) both had 42 points and both were regretting a poor finish.

Cathal was runner-up in the middle section (13-17).

He needed to finish with three pars to win the competition by two shots. A triple bogey at the 17th ended his chances.

Joe Thompson won the high section. He looked a possible winner with two holes to play.

Two double bogeys ended his dream.

Neil Clydesdale (4) also had 42 points.

That equates to a gross 67, two under par, and Neil won the coveted best gross prize.

Danny O’Boyle (16) and Kenny Stevenson (3) both played superb golf for 43 points each.

Danny won the middle section. He must have rued those two double bogeys at 11 and 15. Apart from those two holes, his play was close to perfect.

What can one say about Kenny Stevenson? The man is a legend.

He went round in four under par gross 65, thanks to birdies at holes two, four, seven, 13, 15,and 17.

The temporary green at the third caught him out.

Other than that, his round was perfection.

The winner is a relative newcomer and a promising one at that. David McAllister (20) had probably his best round ever, a gross 80 and 45 points.

Keeping a double bogey off your card is the key. David had only one double and that was at the long par four fifth hole.

He will remember this round for a long time, that’s for sure.
