David wins the Fred Daly Trophy while club challenge is held at Lisburn

David McDowell (15) topped the field in the Fred Daly (News of the World) Trophy competition following a fine round of 83 for a net score of 68.

David played consistently to go round in 83. After a front nine of 41 he drove into the trees at 10 to run up a six. He missed a three foot putt on 17 for par but chipped to four feet on the final green to salvage a three.

Gareth Moore (10) recovered from a seven at the first to go round in 78. His four at the 18th proved expensive as he lost out on count back. Five players finished on 69: James Dowling (14), Peter Robinson (12), David Lyttle (18), M. Allison(10) and Joe O’Neill (10). James had the best back nine (net 32) to finish third.

Ryan Symington (+1) had the best gross with a fine round of 69. After a birdie at the fifth he dropped strokes at eight and nine for front nine of 37. Four birdies in the next six holes gave him a back nine of 32.

A very successful single club challenge followed by a barbecue was held last Friday evening. The competition was played over the front nine holes. The juvenile ‘all finals day’ was held last Monday. Daryl Scott (17) was first with 45 points. Richard McGregor (21) and Henry Thomas (23) were one point in arrears with Richard’s better finish claiming second place. Wilson Thompson (23) came fourth with 43 points. Kathryn Murphy won the girl’s section with Carlie Rosbotham second. Josh Booth won the beginners prize.

Lisburn scored a 12-point win over Banbridge in the first leg of the Sam Rutherford semi-final. Mark and David Armstrong had the best result finishing four up. The other pairings all finished two up. The return match will be played at Banbridge next Sunday. Tom Dougherty and Andrew Crawford had the best score (43) for Lisburn seniors at Warrenpoint.

Wednesday Stableford: 1st John Wallwin (16) 42, 2nd Richard Leathem (7) 42, 3rd David Gardiner (15) 41.
