Delight as Lisburn teams reach two semi final matches

It was a good week for Lisburn teams with the Ulster Fourball team beating Portstewart and the Holt Shield team defeating Dunmurry.

The Ulster Fourball team had a convincing 3 and a half - 1 and a half home victory and won two matches in the return match at Portstewart to put the issue beyond doubt.

Michael McNeice & Mark Coburn won their match 2 and 1. Eddie Rowan & Dessie Kerr clinched the tie when they won on the 16th green. Lisburn now meet Rockmount or Rossmore in the semi-final.

The Holt Shield team required one match at Dunmurry to reach their semi-final. All the matches were close but Richard McDermott got the important point to ensure success. Alistair Symington lost 4 and 3. Neil Law and Aaron Darragh were both behind but Ricky Leathem was ahead when their matches were called in.

The recent spell of good weather helped to make Open Week a great success with all competitions being well supported.

There was a massive entry for the Barbour Cup which was held over Friday and Saturday. The event was sponsored by Patrick Coyle Agencies.

Peter Turkington (11) had birdies at the two par five holes on the front nine but reached the turn in 39. A birdie two at 13 helped him come home in 39 for a round of 78. His net score of 67 clinched the trophy.

Seven players finished two strokes behind: Mark Jamieson (7), Norman McNellis (3), Hubert Shellard (22), Greg Bailie (6) Glen McAuley (1), Ivan Leathem and Neil Thompson (8).

Mark’s birdie two at the 18th clinched second place on count back from Norman with Hubert fourth and Greg fifth.

Glen McAuley (Dunmurry) had two nines of 35 for a 70 to secure the best gross prize with Chris Carroll second on 73.
