Dessie motors to victory in Donnelly & Taggart event at Raceview

The 17-handicapper, a past Captain and current secretary at Raceview, opened his account with a trio of pars, only to drop three shots over the next two holes.

However, he went on to play the next four holes with three pars plus a bogey on the par three seventh, for a total of 22 points.

Into the homeward nine with a par, followed by two bogeys, he then added four pars and completed his round with bogeys at each of the last two holes for a further 23 points.

Second place, some four points back, came Cameron Horner with a total of 41 points and on a better second nine hole score from Ryan Hamill.

Cameron shed a shot on his first hole but retrieved it with a birdie on the fourth, only to drop shots at the fifth and sixth but again he managed to peg back one of those shots with a birdie at the ninth to be out in one over gross for 21 points.

The second nine accounted for dropped shots at 10, 11 and 14 but again he picked up a shot on the final hole, with the other five holes producing pars.

Hamill (17) notched three pars to begin with, only to register a no-score on the par three fourth, and then completed the outward nine with four pars plus a bogey on the eighth.

The inward nine saw Ryan use his handicap well as he scored eight single bogeys plus a par at the 10th to add 19 points to his 22 from the opening nine.

Ronnie Anderson (20) took fourth prize, again by virtue of a better second nine total from William McCartney (18), who had equal nines of 20 points.

The final nett prize was won by Michael McGarry (3) who played the course in level par gross for 39 points in a round which contained three birdies.

Gary Black (2) took the best gross prize with a score of one under par 67 shots.

OPEN STABLEFORDS ROUND-UP

Charlie Robinson (19) won the Whitsun Bank Holiday outing with a score of 39 points, of which 20 came from the outward nine holes.

Runner-up was Thomas Surgenor (12) who played the course to his handicap, scoring 18 points on each nine holes.

The Wednesday open was won by six-handicapper Jake Carson thanks to a vital birdie on the last hole which saw him win on a better second nine total from Adam Robinson (21).

The saw open saw Keith Richmond (13) top score with 44 points and he had a whopping seven points in hand over second placed Sean McCann (13), whose last six hole total was better than Gary McMullan (24) who was left to rue eight double bogeys on his card.

LADIES

Jill Crockard claimed the latest piece of silverware on offer at Ballymena Golf Club this summer when she won last week’s Centenary Cup Stroke.

Jill completed her 18 holes around the Raceview Road course in a nett 68 and help off runner-up, Frances O’Rawe (70), by two shots.
