DOCTOR’S ORDERS AT RPGC PRESIDENT’S DAY

Six pars tempered with two bogies and a nasty double bogey at seven did not prevent Keith from lodging 19 points for the outward nine to set him up nicely for the return home.

The good form continued into the homeward stretch as far as the fourteenth where another two shots were lost to seemingly up the presure on him. However, Keith steadied the ship from there as he dropped just one more shot as he recorded a six at seventeen before signing up for 20 back to give him a winning total of 39 points for his round of golf.

Keith’s closest challenger on the day was Michael Twigg who carded 35 points for his round to leave him four off Keith’s winning score.

Michael started the day well. He struck four birdies in his opening nine as he fired home two twos and two threes, on his way to a very respectable 22 points for the front nine.

Ten and fourteen were not kind to Michael however and gave him nothing at all from those holes. Not easy for a five man to make up that sort of deficit and he ran out with 13 points for the back nine and 35 overall to give him second spot from Keith.

Shaun Clarke blanked the sixth and dropped a few shots elsewhere for his 13 point front nine but he recovered well coming back home scoring 21 points to climb the board. He birdied the long tenth and dropped just one more shot along the way, a five at sixteen, to finish third overall.

In the Anno Dominie section Dr Ian Madden scored a good 19 points for the nine counting holes to take the honours on the day. His birdie four at two and a two at the short sixth proved crucial in the final placings.

The Best Gross winner was John Finnegan jnr by virtue of his round of 74. His two at the third balanced up with his bogey five at seven meant John was out in level par 36.

The long tenth gave him his final bird of the round after which three shots were dropped at par fours to see John back in 38 for his gross 74, which was enough for him to take the prize.
