Dr Tom gets Portrush medal

A superb net score of 63 saw Dr Tom Turner grab the Monthly Medal by seven shots on Saturday at Royal Portrush GC.

His tweo at the third and another birdy, three at eight, got Tom to the halfway stage in level par 36. More birdies, a two at eleven and another with a three at fifteen saw him sign for another level par nine for a gross 72 netting down to the winning 63.

Silver winner was Bryan Martin on 70. The opening hole fell to a birdy three but that was the end of the birdies. Not that Bryan did not score well after that, just two shots were dropped to par in the outward nine of 37. Five bogeys coming back gave him a back nine score of 41, 78 overall and a net of 70. The Bronze medal goes to James McClements for his round of 70. But for a triple bogey seven at thirteen things could have been different. Best Gross prize went to Andrew Morris. He returned a 71 for this. Out in level par with a birdy three at the fifth and a birdie four at nine the good work continued into the back nine as he logged another three at twelve and a four at seventeen to finish the nine in one under.
