Duddy wins at Prehen

MARTIN DUDDY (16) was best of the day in the Samaritans Charity Open at Prehen on Sunday with a winning 40 points total and that despite dropping four shots over the last three holes.

Second place was taken on a break of tie by Gary Leckey (11) who along with Ernie Heywood (1) had 39 points and Ernie had to settle for third place. His 69 was also the best gross of the day.

Paul McIntosh (15) reappeared on the radar again to take fourth spot with 38 points again on a count back.

Mary O’Doherty (32) took the first ladies place with 38 points and lost another shot off her handicap in the process and Christine Mitchell (26) finished in second place in that category with 31 points again on a tie break.

While Alfie Kane (10) was the clear winner of Saturday’s Dispo Products sponsored Open at Prehen with a record five point winning margin over the pack.

A fabulous one under par second nine and 24 points was the secret of his 43 point total leaving the rest of field floundering in his wake.

Best of these was Dan McAnulla (15) on 38 points giving him second spot on a count back, a birdie three at Foyle helping his cause considerably. Stuart McClelland (9) was third, the only blemish on his card a blank at “Billy’s”.

Kealan Quigg (0) was fourth overall with 37 points giving him the best gross and the fifth and final spot went to Robert Leckie (10) who was best of a bunch who finished on 37 points also.

While six handicapper Colin Jeffrey took first place in the weekly Thursday Open at City of Derry courtesy of an impressive back nine of 22 points for a tie breaking win on 40 points overall. Back to back birdies on holes 15 and 16 were vital in securing the victory.

Already a triple winner in the Thursday Open’s this season Mark Mohan (11) had to settle for the runner up spot this time but dropping three shots over the last three holes didn’t help his cause.

Third place on the day went to Tony McCann (14) with 39 points) on a tie break, his 24 points on the back nine proving unbeatable. Kealan Quigg (0) won the gross on 37 points and Martin O’Kane (6) from Portstewart won the best visitors prize with 39 points.
