Dunmurry ladies celebrate the end of the golfing season with annual event

The annual end of year dinner for Dunmurry Golf Club had another terrific turnout in 2014 with over 70 ladies attending.

The evening started with the Lady Vice Captain Claire Johnston welcoming everyone to the dinner.

In her speech she also praised Lady Captain Helen on carrying out her duties as Lady Captain flawlessly throughout 2014.

She also thanked Helen for representing the club’s interests at several meetings, attending numerous events, supporting Ladies’ and Men’s teams and also the juveniles.

After the meal the Lady Captain thanked Claire for organising the evening, Ann Walby for the beautiful flower arrangements, and the catering and bar staff who provided a terrific service.

To finish off the evening a group of ladies paid tribute to L.C. Helen by performing a ‘Carry on…’ style sing and dance routine reminiscent of some romantic moments and fun times in the Royal Victoria Hospital in 1974. It was a lively routine with colourful uniforms and it created a lot of laughter.

The ladies retired happy after an enjoyable evening.

Meanwhile, over 35 ladies played 9 holes of golf on Friday December 12 on a cold and frosty morning.

The winner with a good score of 24 points was Chris Simpson and the runner up, Ann Walby was a close second with 23 points (Better back three).

After the golf 50 ladies welcomed the very tasty lunch of soup, sandwiches, mulled wine, followed by tea, coffee, Christmas cake, shortbread and meringues. Everyone thoroughly enjoyed the lunch.

There was a prize for a homemade Christmas cracker and the selection was amazing ranging from small to very large.

The most outstanding cracker was won by Kathleen Bleakley, with Eileen Henry considered a very close second.

Ruth Allum won the Christmas hamper competition.

After lunch Lady Captain presented cheques to her chosen charities for the year. £2525.00 was divided between Target Ovarian Cancer and Friends of the Cancer Centre.

Claire Hogarth representing Friends of the Cancer Centre received the cheque and expressed her sincere thanks for the generous donation and explained that the money would be used for research, specialist nurses and patient’s comforts.
