Dunmurry ladies take on Balmoral in Senior Cup

The Dunmurry Golf Club ladies team who played in the Senior Cup at Balmoral Golf Club.

The team of Fionnuala M’Grady (captain) Laura Cathcart, Donna Gillespie, Elaine McConnell and Ashleigh Cathcart were drawn against last year’s champions Royal Portrush in the first round.

The team prepared diligently for this match. The opposition was huge – the Royal Portrush players had handicaps ranging from scratch to 5 with experience representing World University, Ulster and Irish International teams. The Dunmurry players put in a great performance given the strength of the Royal Portrush team who went on to win the Ulster Championship for the 20th time. Team captain Fionnuala McGrady feels the experience of the event was well worthwhile for the team and all agreed that Dunmurry should enter a team again next year.

The same five ladies plus Lesley Allen made up Dunmurry’s Senior Foursomes team who played Royal County Down Ladies in the first round. They won two of the three matches played on the championship course at Newcastle. Unfortunately on the return leg they lost a very hard fought match to RCDL, the result being decided on the overall number of holes won.

Congratulations to the ladies of both Dunmurry teams on their fine performance in these matches.

Meanwhile, Dunmurry Ladies held a successful fashion show and enjoyable evening on Wednesday April 2 to raise funds for the Lady Captain’s charities Target Ovarian Cancer and Friends of the Cancer Centre. The event was attended by 120 ladies and took the form of a Fashion Show which was compered by Myrtle Hull from ‘Forward Image’.

Five Dunmurry lady members and one professional model displayed a very colourful selection of golf clothes from Rockmount and Dunmurry Pro shops. This was followed by a range of beautiful clothes for all occasions from ‘Dress’ Ballynahinch and Anne Louise Designs. In addition Melanie Bond accessorised the outfits with her jewellery. During the break the ladies could view the clothes, jewellery, knitwear and handbags and have a chat with the designers. The evening raised £900.00.

April 11, PGA Tankard: Qualifying: 1st Sandra Davies 30 points, 2nd Patricia Ferguson 30 points, 3rd Anne Lowe 29 points.
