Early Christmas presentfor John and Canice

THERE was a sweep run at Lurgan on Christmas Eve and it was won by John McCallion and Canice McGivern.

Both scored excellent 34 points on the day. However 22 handicapper John took the main prize. Over the 14 holes a run of pars at holes two, five, nine, eleven and seventeen helped him get across the finishing line. Nine handicapper Canice McGivern nabbed second place with his tally of 34 points. He had two pars on the outward seven. More pars came his way on holes ten, eleven, fifteen and seventeen. This provided him with the final net prize.

On Boxing Day the final Wednesday Sweep of the year took place. An encouraging 53 golfers participated and a promising seventeen golfers shot under par scores. Veteran Hamilton Baxter took the honours with a well measured round of 33 points. Playing off a 24 handicap Hammie made adroit use of his allowance. A trio of pars at holes nine, eleven and seventeen were his most prominent scores.

In second place was John Healy with a tidy haul of 32 points. This fourteen handicapper began the opening seven with a birdie at the first. Pars at holes five and nine helped to keep the points accumulating. He tagged on five more pars on the second half of the course to ease him into second spot.

Juvenile member Conor McDonald was third with a further offering of 32 points. This fourteen handicapper was quickly into his stride with pars on holes three, five and eight. On the back seven he consolidated his ground with further pars at holes ten, twelve, fourteen and seventeen to secure the honours.

In the gross department three handicapper Caolan McCann emerged victorious with 29 gross points. He birdied holes six, eleven and seventeen but bogeys on the fifth and fifteenth holes made inroads on the gains. Pars were his lot on the rest of the holes.

The other useful scoring was achieved by the following: 32 pts Kieran Patterson, Sean McClean, Ronan McCrory; 31 pts: Brian Bassett, Peter Cummins; 30 pts: Gareth Moore, Colin Thompson, John McEvoy, Harry Hoy, Mal McConville, Conal Patterson. 29 pts: Paul Lavery, Thomas Hughes.

On Thursday 27th December the juveniles has some competitive play. With 35 pts Ryan Latifi was the Boys winner whilst Niamh McSherry was the Girl’s winner with 20 points.
