Eileen wins for second week in row

There’s a distinct feeling of déjà vu about the results this week as a number of the winners have already appeared in the winning circle during the last few weeks.

Coming out on top for the second week in a row is Eileen McCann with 36 points. Eileen’s card shows four nice pars which set the groundwork for her score and if it hadn’t been for a ding at the last, her 36 points might have been even better.

Fiona McGrady marked her first 18 of the year by winning the gross prize and as this was despite two dings on her card all the signs are there that Fiona is returning with the same good form from which she finished off last year.

Bronagh McKavanagh won section one with 33 points. Bronagh had a very slow start with two double bogeys but thankfully she recovered from this and showed the class golfer that she is by having a nice run of pars on a lot of her remaining holes to win her section.

Section 2 and section 3 winners are a repeat of the results from two weeks ago with Geraldine Hickland winning her section with 34 points and Sheila Horner winning hers with 35 points. These two ladies have certainly found the winning formula for this early part of the season and there are a few ladies who are wishing they would share it with the rest of us.

Lurgan juniors continue to bring recognition to Lurgan Golf Club and this week it was the turn of Peter Cummins. Peter played in the Nick Faldo Series tournament at the Lough Erne resort and came out winner of the U16 section.

With scores of 76 (+4) and 73 (+1) he tied the lead with Owen Crooks and won the section by virtue of having the better second card. Along with the winners of the U21, U18 and girls section Peter will travel to the Greenbrier Golf Resort, home of the well known Greenbrier Classic, in October.

On Saturday afternoon young Conor McEvoy, who is getting married in two weeks time, had his name pulled out of the hat in the Joker draw. Conor himself wasn’t in the club but his father Johnny duly stepped up and selected a card on his behalf.

An enormous roar could be heard from both Johnny and a packed lounge when the Joker was turned. The Jackpot was £1675 and the timing for Conor couldn’t have been better.
