Ex-City defender wins at Foyle Golf Club

ANOTHER excellent turnout of 40 members in last weekend's Foyle Sunday Society competition saw former Derry City defender, Paul McLaughlin, secure his first victory in his first year as a member of the Ballyarnett club.

The affable Scot, carded a superb score of 44 points playing off a 12 handicap, to win by one.

The runner-up, on 43 points, was Foyle's Jimmy Bruen Ulster Pennant winning skipper, John McDowell while third place went to Drew Chambers (10) with 42 points.

At the half-way stage, Paul McEleney continues to lead the race for the 'Golfer Of Year' title with 48 points, two points ahead of big-hitting Emmett McNally with Dermott Harkin third on 38.

In the Team competition - Team 7 - Lawrence Powell, Paul McEleney and Michael Gallagher lead with 141 points from Team 8 (138 points) with Team 2 back in third on 134 points.

Society Captain, Gary McElroy, asks members to note the date of 2010 'Weekend Away' - April 24th and 25th and Gary has arranged for members to play Murvagh on April 24th and Bundoran on April 25th. A deposit will secure places as numbers are limited.
