Holding an 8.5 to 1.5 lead from their home leg, Faughan Valley were quietly confident of gaining the two points they needed to take the trophy home for only the second time in the competition’s history.

This confidence was quickly knocked aside when Foyle arrived on the first tee with a team sporting 15 changes from the one that had contested the first leg.

What followed was a demonstration of what the two Bridges is all about, a great rivalry between two neighbouring clubs played in a sporting, friendly and yet highly competitive manner. At the end of a great day’s golf the score was tied at 5-5, giving Faughan Valley the trophy on an aggregate score of 13.5 to 6.5.

Faughan Valley would like to thank Foyle Golf Club for their outstanding hospitality and to congratulate Cormac McGeady on his hole in one at the 167-yard third hole, in what was the match of the day.

While at Faughan Valley the Kelly Meats sponsored Winter League is now entering its third week.
