Faughan Valley win Two Bridges Cup

WITH the second cards returned in the Desmond Motors Winter League at Foyle scoring has been very good with Team 21 Joe Doran, Matt Donnell, Ciaran O’Hagan and Leo Young returning an excellent score of 103 points for an accumulated total of 200 points for their two cards and now hold a five point lead over Team 3 of Ciaran Gillen, Scott Kennedy, John Morrison and Ryan Gillen, at this early stage in the league.

In third spot at the minute on 194 points is Team 22 of Paddy Coyle, Stuart Gauld, David Knox and John McDowell, while Team 24 of Mark Doherty, Jim McFadden, Ciaran O’Doherty and Dermott Harkin with 191 points are in fourth place.

The leading ladies after week two is Team 13 of Agnes McLaughlin, Sheila McLaughlin and Florence Rankin who have scored 89 points.

While the third outing of the Foyle Sunday Society again attracted a very good entry with close on 70 members now taking part in the competitions with Sunday’s outing enjoying fine conditions.

Some excellent scores were returned the best from 17 handicapper John Logue who posted the winning score of 43 points with Cormac McGeady (4) going round in 69 shots for his excellent score of 42 points and second place, Mark Doherty (21) finished in third with 41 points.
The turkey competitions were won by Matt Donnell, Damien McColgan and John J Gillespie.

Foyle hosted Faughan Valley on Saturday in the return leg of the Annual Two Bridges Cup and in the eighth year of this very enjoyable event David Logue and his team arrived at Foyle firm favorites to win the event for the first time after their splendid performance at Faughan Valley where they won 9 matches to 1 therefore leaving Kevin Dunn and his team needing a miraculous performance if they were to over haul the deficit, which was not to be with the match finishing five matches each leaving Logue and his fine Faughan Valley team to collect the Cup by 14 matches to 6.

This week the Desmond Motors Winter League continues dail, as does the Turkey competitions and anyone looking to play in the Sunday Society competition should book their own tee-time.
