Fintan tops on a day of keen scores at Silverwood

It was week five of the Winter League at Silverwood Golf Club on Saturday, the course was playing very heavy, but this did not stop the members returning some great scores.

The player with the best score on the day was Fintan McAreavey with an excellent 41 points which equalled a five under par gross 67.

Fintan had 21 points on his front nine with four birdies at the 1st, 3rd, 7th and 9th holes with only one bogey and four pars. Another 20 points came on his back nine including three birdies at the 11th, 14th and 18th holes, one bogey at the 12th hole, and five pars for another great sub-par round of golf by Fintan.

In second place in the low section was Frank Stevenson with 40 points, he had 19 points on his front nine with five pars at the 3rd, 4th, 7th, 8th and 9th holes and four bogeys. Frank had 21 points on his back nine with three bogeys at the 11th, 15th and 16th holes, along with six pars to collect his ham for Christmas.

Third place went to Derek Boyd with another 40 points with 21 points on his front nine with three bogeys on the 2nd, 5th and 6th holes and six pars.

Then 19 points on his back nine with one birdie at the 18th hole, three pars at the 11th, 13th and 14th holes, one double bogey and four bogeys.

In the middle section first place went to Sam Frazer with 37 points. He had 17 points on his front nine with three pars at the 1st, 6th and 9th holes, one double bogey and five bogeys along with 20 points on his back nine with four pars and five bogeys.

Second place went to Michael Walsh with 37 points, he had 18 points on his front nine with six pars and 19 points on his back nine that contained another four pars.

Albert Porter was next with 37 points, Albert had 18 points on his front nine with five pars at the 4th, 5th, 7th, 8th and 9th holes and 19 points on his back nine, with one birdie at the 13th hole, three pars at the 10th, 11th and 14th holes.

The gross prize went to James Noble with a two over 74 gross.

He had a front nine of 35 with three birdies at the 5th, 8th and 9th holes, along with three pars at the 2nd, 3rd and 4th holes and three bogeys.

His back nine of 39 had two bogeys at the 10th and 15th holes and seven pars.

In the high section first place went to Paul Johnston with 35 points, he had five pars on his card at the 4th, 8th, 9th 11 and 13th holes and a mixture of bogeys and double bogeys.

Second place went to Patrick Curran with 33 points, and third place went to Kieran McAlinden with 32 points.

The senior prize was won by Francis Kelly with 39 points.
