Forbes takescaptain’s prize

FAUGHAN Valley Captain Cecil King hosted his Captain’s Day on Saturday, the weather was not kind to the players but it did not deter them from supporting King.

Over a 100 participating for the Captains prize, with eight handicapper David Forbes on a break of tie finish claimed first place from last years winner Paul Farren (21) both carding 38 points.

In third spot was Tony P Griffiths with 37 points playing off a handicap of 12, the gross prize went to Conor Peace (7) with 78 nett, the front nine was won by Roy Cooke (16) with 20 points and Martin McGlynn (16) took the back nine with 21 points.

Nearest the pin went to Paul Farren, and the longest drive went to Dan Hinds, the ladies competition was played over 12 holes, with the first prize going to 17 handicapper Eileen Robb with 25 points, the club’s Lady Captain Kathleen Cooke took second spot with 22 points playing off a handicap of 27 and in third place went to Jackie McNulty (27) with 21 points.

The Captains visitors prize went to 12 handicapper Cecil Holmes from Castlerock with 33 points and the Captains Guests prize went to Kevin Dunne from Foyle with 32 points playing off 10, Shane McGahon in his last year as a Junior, took the Junior Prize with 39 points playing off a handicap of 9.

Martin McGlynn was the winner of the past Captains Prize with 32 points and the club’s past President Don O’Doherty was presented with the Club man of the Year Award.

In the mid-week competition Roy Cooke (13) took first spot with 42 points, in second spot after a BOT finish was James Lindsay (2) with 27 points and third spot went to Damien Lough (10) also with 37 points.

This Saturday the Waterside club will be hosting the PFS and Ronnie Parkes Trophy and on Sunday its an Open Stableford.
