Foyle Captain's Drive-in this Friday

THE Seasons Over 50s competitions got underway at Foyle on Friday with a very good turnout and it took a two way break of tie decision to confirm the winner with Mathew Donnell (12) getting the verdict by virtue of his superior back nine over Gerry Breslin (21) both players returning very good scores of 42 points.

While the G.U.I. Inter Club competitions are now underway with Foyle hosting Hilton Templepatrickin the home leg first round of the Ulster Cup and in a very close encounter Foyle were victorious by 4 matches to 3 and take a one match advantage to Hilton for the return leg on Sunday.

Winners for Foyle were Michael Thompson, Stuart Gauld, Paul McLaughlin and Tony McGinley, while David Knox, Kieran Duffy and Martin Loughrey lost their matches.

The Foyle Ulster Fourball Team played the home leg in the first round of the competition on Sunday against Banbridge Golf Club and had a convincing victory by 5 matches to nil win, they play the return leg at Banbridge on Sunday, May 2, needing only to secure a half match for victory.

The following were the winning pairs - Paddy Coyle and Paul McEleney won 2 up; Brian O'Kane and Seamus O'Connor won 2/1; Jim McGrotty and Paul McIntyre won 2/1; Dermott Harkin and Paul Cassidy won 3/1; Sean Sands and Declan McKinney won 5/3.

Foyle Golf Club Captain Mr Gary Jackson and Lady Captain Mrs Anne Hamilton will hold their Drive - In on Friday at 5pm followed by a 9 hole Scramble for Ladies Gents and Juveniles, following the golf there will be a prize presentation with light refreshments available.

Today (Wednesday) until Sunday sees the Texaco Filling Station Bridgend Pairs Qualifier (1 card only) top 32 pairs Qualify.
